I am licensed to facilitate the Myers Briggs Type Indicator® having been trained by OPP, the licensed UK providers of the MBTI® .
The Indicator is available as a one-off service as well as part of my coaching packages. It can be delivered face-to-face in Brighton or London and across the UK by telephone (or in person for group/team assessment, subject to numbers.) What is it?Personality is a hugely complex area but the MBTI® provides a practical way of understanding and working with our individual personalities and preferences.
Myers and Briggs added to the work of Jung to produce profiles of 16 personality types and a theoretical framework which explains how the types are constructed.
The Indicator has been used by millions of people around the world to aid personal and group development and is employed widely in the corporate world and for career development.
My rationale for offering MBTI® to clients is that it can: - increase confidence
- provide a framework for aligning personal life and career choices to who the client really is
- improve communication and relationships
- help people to appreciate and accept themselves.
Can I trust it? Yes, you can. The Indicator has been extensively tested both for the validity of the questionnaire on which the profiles are based, and also for consistency of results over time when people take it at intervals. Finding your “best fit” personality type Be aware that there are many online profiles based on Jung’s research and MBTI® - but they are not produced by MBTI® . While they are cheaper than a facilitated session they may not provide the same long-term results. Nor will they give you access to MBTI® copyrighted information.
Perhaps the most important element of the facilitation process is that you are guided to find the personality type that is your "best fit". An online questionnaire does not provide this guidance which really helps people to "own" their results rather than just see them as a computer print out.
For more details on the process, scroll further down this page.
The benefits of understanding your personality There are many benefits of using the MBTI® either individually or as a group and some commonly mentioned ones are: - increases confidence and trust in one’s personality and boosts self-worth
- helps to make sense of past career and life choices and aids future decision-making and planning
- improves self awareness and acceptance
- aids interpersonal skills and communication
What will the profile tell me? The Indicator will give you information in two distinct areas: - how you relate to the external world (based on how you energise yourself and your preferred lifestyle), and
- how you see the world (based on how you make decisions and how you understand and communicate information).
Don’t worry if this doesn’t make sense. After a facilitated session you will be clear on why each of these things is important, how they interrelate and how they impact on your personality.
How can I apply it ?The Indicator is not used as a method of restricting people or boxing them in.
It is a tool to grow and develop from. It’s a springboard for ideas and opportunities. It’s a mirror that helps people see their best self and also areas in which they might develop.
There are strict ethical guidelines about using the MBTI® and these include the fact that it should not be used in selecting staff. The Indicator provides information on personal preferences but these are not related to aptitude or level of skill.
The MBTI® in a group, team or corporate environment The Myers Briggs Type Indicator ( MBTI® ) can be useful for team members and individuals that are new to each other or the organisation. It can support leadership development, building an effective team, conflict resolution, improved communication and presentation, poor performance management plus problem solving.
It can also be used to help development of both successful and failing teams and individuals.
The process The process is very simple: - first, you fill out a paper questionnaire and return it to me
- second, we meet face-to-face (in London or Brighton) or over the telephone and I take you through the Indicator so you can make a self-assessment of your personality and then find the personality profile that fits you best.
- third, after coming to best fit, I will explain further how certain elements of the profile combine so that you have a sense of how to apply it after the session
- fourth, most people find the session enlightening, uplifting, encouraging and fun.
Next steps and fees My fee for the MBTI®, including your personal copy of "Introduction to Type", is £120.
