Executive and leadership coachingLeadership is guiding a group of people towards a desired outcome. While this sounds simple, anyone who has held a leadership position will tell you otherwise - which is why coaching is important.
Coaching - whether a one-to-one relationship or group programme - has four components:
1) defining desired outcomes and metrics
2) increasing the leader's self-awareness - of their personality, strengths, values, experience and beliefs. This generates confidence and optimisim and solid foundations for moving forward.
3) The next stage is to develop the leader's vision and mission so that they are clear about why and how they want to lead. The clarity achieved at this stage is crucial if the leader is going to communicate effectively with their followers - staff, clients, suppliers etc.
4) Once the vision is in place, the next stage is to focus on the current reality, specific outcomes and strategies to achieve them. The coaching will be results and action-focused at this stage and may include, for example, stakeholder mapping, influencing and communications skills.
At the end of the coaching programme, a formal review will be held.
A non-judgmental sounding board - one of the greatest challenges of being an entrepreneur or corporate leader or manager is coping with isolation. Coaching provides the non-judgmental sounding board you may need to express ideas and concerns, work out new strategies, deal with stress and cope with other issues caused by being alone at the top.
Coaching formats - the format of coaching varies from client to client. Dependent on location and budget, coaching takes place face-to-face and/or over the telephone.
